“This is my stepping stone to redemption,” says Mark Kerr, one day out from his fight against undefeated King Mo Lawal on M-1 Breakthrough in Kansas City. “I know I have had some terrible fights and with many people I will never redeem myself but I am going to try and it starts here.

Kerr weighed in for the Lawal fight at 263lb, though he says with more preparation time he could have gotten down to 250 and aims to get to 235 within a year. Though taking the Lawal fight on only two weeks notice following the withdrawal of Lawal's original opponent – Don Frye – Kerr says he's not in Kansas City just for a pay day. He's here to fight and to prove that he is not the spent force fans think.

“I know everyone has written me off,” Kerr told HDNet exclusively. “I know people think I am a joke. I don't blame them. It has been hard for me to sit and look at myself in the mirror. I mean I wouldn't be a fan of me the way I have fought in recent times. I would never expect a fan to want my autograph any more."

Este praticamente foi o primeiro Fedor. Foi um monstro na epoca dele. Pq ele diferentemente do Coleman tinha um submission muito bom. Inclusive foi campeão em Abu Dhabi varias vezes.

pelo titulo achei que era uma entrevista do Forrest Griffin...

Mark Kerr foi um dos caras mais duros do seu tempo, tanto no VT quanto no submission. No seu auge, nao lembro de nenhuma derrota no submission....Quando perdeu pro Arona no ADCC Brazil ele já estava em decadência...

Parece que agora chegou no fundo do poço.

Eh realmente uma pena. Escolheu um cara errado para tentar voltar por cima... ainda mais caindo de para-quedas.

Apenas um toque, o titulo do topico faz parecer que ele esta falando sobre a ultima luta. A entrevista foi feita antes da luta e o "estive horrivel e estou envergonhado" eh em relacao as ultimas lutas dele.

Em um ano, ele quer voltar ao topo:

“I'm looking long term. I'm looking to redeem myself. Within a year I feel I can get my physical self back and can be competitive enough to have a least a couple of fights in the big leagues. I mean eventually they are going to run out of opponents for Brock Lesnar, right? I want to be in a position where in a year or so they consider me for a fight like that.”

Pois é, se qr voltar ao menos a estar entre os grandes, deveria estar com uma equipe capaz de resgatar ao menos um pouco do velho Kerr.

O pior é que o pessoal que acompanha MMA a pouco tempo olha o cartel e ve ele hoje acha que o cara não é e não foi nada.

Mas o Kerr já tem seu nome escrito na historia do esporte, na sua epoca assombrou o mundo.

Caramba.. deu tristeza de ler a entrevista. Sério mesmo. O cara tá a um passo da depressão, se já não estiver. E é um cara que já passou por várias fases bravas na vida por causa dos pain killers e dos anabols, como fala aquele documentário (bem legal por sinal) dele. Não sei nem o que dizer numa hora dessas. Só sei que ele precisa de ajuda.

Vendo a luta claro que eu pensei a mesma coisa que todo mundo: "Porque esse cara não se aposenta logo?". Mas lendo a entrevista fica claro que as coisas não são tão simples assim. Se ele "for aposentado" dessa forma pode ser até pior. A cabeça do cara tá um turbilhão.

Só me resta torcer. Não para o velho Kerr voltar, pq isso é impossível. Mas pra esse cara tomar um rumo na vida.
