Karo Parisyan vs. Dennis Hallman no UFC 123

As it turns out, UFC president Dana White believes in second, or maybe third, chances.

Nine months after White gave Karo Parisyan (19-5 MMA, 9-3 UFC) his walking papers, the welterweight veteran is octagon bound once again for a meeting with Dennis Hallman (41-13-2 MMA, 1-4 UFC) at UFC 123.

Although not officially announced by the promotion, UFC 123 is expected to take place Nov. 20 at Palace of Auburn Hills in suburban Michigan.

Multiple sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that both fighters have agreed to the contest and are in the process of finalizing paperwork. The match-up was first reported by MMAFighting.com.

White said Parisyan would never again fight in the octagon when the Armenian-American fighter withdrew from a scheduled match-up with submission specialist Dustin Hazelett at UFC 106 this past November. It was the second last-minute withdrawal for Parisyan, who also bowed out of a fight against Yoshiyuki Yoshida at UFC 88 with a back injury.

But the Los Angeles native did not give up on a return. He campaigned publicly for another shot in the UFC following a second-round submission of Ben Mortimer at Impact FC: The Uprising" in Australia.

"I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and praying that they'll give me another chance and I can come back and redeem myself," he told MMAjunkie.com Radio.

And as it turns out, he got his wish.

In his most recent octagon appearance, Parisyan outpointed Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 91. But his win was changed to a no-contest when a post-fight drug test revealed the presence of prescription painkillers. He was subsequently fined by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and ordered to pay a fine of $32,000.

In the months before his UFC 106 bout, Parisyan cut a deal with Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer to use his UFC bout purses to pay off the fine in installments. It's unknown whether the purse from his Nov. 20 fight will serve as the first installment of his debt.

While there had undoubtedly been rocky times in their relationship, Parisyan said he and White remain on good terms.

"Dana and I are pretty good friends, and we were very close friends at the time (of the UFC 106 withdrawal)," Parisyan earlier said. "Dana felt kind of betrayed, and he felt really hurt that he did something for me and I just didn't pay (it) back.

"But it had nothing to do with Dana or the UFC. The last thing I wanted to do was anything toward them. I don't [expletive] where I eat."

Hallman, meanwhile, returns to action after a key victory over Ben Saunders at UFC 117. A significant underdog, the Northwest veteran used his significant advantage on the mat to cruise ahead on judges' scorecards for a unanimous decision.

The win likely saved his UFC job. After stints in the IFL and Strikeforce, Hallman returned to the octagon this past December and suffered a heartbreaking, last-minute loss to John Howard at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale. He subsequently mused about a move to the lightweight class, where he felt he would be more competitive, but he put the plans on the backburner with the Saunders booking.

O Karo tinha um estilo muito legal de se ver. Mas, de repente, travou feito uma mula, parou de lutar...

Torço para que ele volte a seus bons momentos ( ele chegou a ter direito a um title shot contra o Hughes, mas acho que se contundiu e a luta acabou não ocorrendo).

Como foi esse lance com o Dana?

Que eu me lembre, ele chegou pro Dana um dia antes da pesagem, ou no dia mesmo, e disse que não ia lutar. Dai o Dana falou que ele nunca mais iria lutar no UFC.

de acordo com o bloodyelbow numa reportagem falando daquele lance do joe stevenson ir no méxico pra bater um raio x pois ele não tinha plano de saúde, o karo parysian se contundiu nos treinamentos pra lutar contra o hughes e não tinha como pagar pela cirurgia (acho que nos tornozelos), nem o UFC se dispôs a pagar... a partir dai, passou a recorrer a painkillers tornando-se dependente e adquirindo síndrome do pânico. inclusive essa é a causa da queda de rendimento: lutar contundido e sob efeito de remédios. o karo tava tão liso uma época que nem dinheiro pra pagar uma taxa aí que os lutadores pagam para as comissões atléticas quando vão lutar ele tinha.
